Equal treatment and social protection for cross-border and seasonal workers

On 19 June 2020, the European Parliament approved a resolution in which it asks the Commission to end labour abuses and frauds of cross-border and seasonal workers who have suffered, especially, since the COVID-19 crisis. I stressed during the plenary debate that it is necessary to end the negative image of the sector so that all workers enjoy equal treatment, social protection, decent working conditions and access to state aid and social security, regardless of their country of origin or destination.

It is regrettable that the current pandemic context has revealed that migrant workers in Europe are not always treated equally as national workers. Therefore, it is necessary to detect possible abuses and identify those cases that, albeit being a minority, damage the image of the sector and create unfair competition.
