In this article, I emphasise the need to strengthen the social dimension of economic governance in the European Union, by focusing on greater fiscal flexibility and investments that improve welfare and mitigate recessions.
On the occasion of the Social Forum taking place today and tomorrow in Porto, I have published an article with Alba Huertas on the importance of a stronger social Europe in which recent European directives on minimum wages and wage transparency are implemented, while at the same time pending anti-poverty mechanisms, such as a minimum income directive, are put in place, complementing minimum incomes with other social benefits.
n this article, I highlight the importance of a minimum income system as an anti-poverty measure and the need to promote European legislation to make these systems effective and to serve as a safety net and social protection.
