The European Commission has to take steps to include vulnerable groups in the European pillar of social rights

Together with my colleague, socialist MEP Alícia Homs, I have sent a written question to the European Commission urging them to take steps to advance the European pillar of social rights, through innovative solutions to include vulnerable groups in national health systems and statistics.

Despite the assumption that European countries have achieved universal health coverage, the report of the World Medical Observatory 2019 reveals that 80% of the people studied in this report stated that they do not have health coverage and that there were serious imbalances in the provision of healthcare between EU Member States.

In addition, one should not forget that the President of the European Commission, Ursula Von der Leyen, has pledged to fully implement the European pillar of social rights and that universal health coverage, according to WHO, must “ensure that all people have access to to the necessary promotional, preventive, curative and rehabilitation health services, and do not suffer financial difficulties when paying for these services. “

For this reason, we have sent a question to the European Commission if there will be any additional economic and human resources to meet these goals.
