The socialists ask the Commission to guarantee people with autism access to the labour market

Together with my colleagues, the socialist MEPs Alícia Homs and Mónica Silvana González, I have asked the European Commission to develop programmes to adapt the skills of people with autism and autism spectrum disorder (ASD), in order to guarantee them the education they need to access the labour market.

In a written question addressed to the European Commission, we have asked to give this group access to education, to support research and to improve their inclusion, as well as for the dissemination of information campaigns on autism “to help end employers’ reluctance ». All this “is key to achieving real inclusion of people with autism in the labour market.”

The letter also indicates that studies carried out by Autism Europe show that unemployment currently affects almost 90% of people with ASD in Europe and that they are one of the most vulnerable groups when entering the labour market.
