Together with socialist MEPs Alicia Homs and Lina Gálvez, I have asked the European Commission to design some assistance mechanism to assist European Union partners and European self-employed workers to mitigate the negative effects of the global COVID-19 pandemic.
The measures being taken, such as confinement, together with the uncertainty of this situation, are leading to a significant paralysis of economic activity in the Member States. The self-employed are especially vulnerable due to their specific characteristics and heterogeneity and for this reason it is necessary to develop a protection mechanism similar to the Youth Guarantee.
