On the occasion of the Social Forum taking place today and tomorrow in Porto, I have published an article with Alba Huertas on the importance of a stronger social Europe in which recent European directives on minimum wages and wage transparency are implemented, while at the same time pending anti-poverty mechanisms, such as a minimum income directive, are put in place, complementing minimum incomes with other social benefits.
At the Porto forum, binding measures and other initiatives are required to achieve the targets agreed in the EPSR, such as reducing the number of people at risk of poverty or social exclusion to at least 15 million by 2030, as well as discussing new concrete targets, based on the creation of quality jobs and healthier workplaces.
